A really COOL Street/Strip Racer
and good for a low 12second run with a C4 automatic trans

Our scandinavian friends are always goof for Performance Mustangs with a special touch. And so is Samu Kaunisto's '68 GT-R.
I met him at the X-Treme-Festival at the Malmin Airport near Helsinki.

The weather wasn't that fine, so only a few visitors saw the action and there was a lot of it, including drag races and a special promotion of the Fast and Furious cars incl. a black Charger like in the movie.

The white 68 Mustang was the only Mustang present, but it stood out of the Xtreme custom cars. Samu has a small specialised tuning and customizing garage (which is not the right word indeed) and its called SK Autosound. Aside from this Mustang he owns a Street Fighter Bike and a Street driven Hot Rod.

Samu told me:

„I bought this Mustang in 2002 from a guy, who had started to restore it in 1985, but never got through with it, it was painted in 1989 in Wimbledon White and that is still the paint you see here. The car rested for about 10 years in his garage and I was pointed to it by a colleague. It was originally a 69 GT 390 from San Jose, but the engine was missing.

Instead it carried a 302 from a Hardtop. The engine was restored, but did not really rev up. So I took it out and built another 302 with Edelbrock RPM heads, an airgap spider and a Crane cam. The compression was raised with TRW pistons to 11,75:1.
I used Chrome-Moly rings with more gap to take the Nitrous Oxide punch.
The carburetor is a Carter 750chfm, Shelby headers vent the gases out, but I will change to Hookers with an X-pipe and 2,5" size with Ferrita stainless steel resonators back there.
I think it will have 400 HP plus 150HP from the Nitrous Works Plate system.

The transmission is a C4 with a shiftkit and a TCI 10" 3500 rpm stall converter. The 8" rear axis has a 3,55:1 ratio.

17" American Racing Torque Thrust II with 235/45ZR17 take the power to the pavement, 215/45ZR17 are up front. I lowered the car as much as possible and used adjustable Koni shocks. Breaks were standard disks up front and drums rear, but probably meanwhile changed to 13" Baer brakes.

I spent about 500 hours on this car in modifying it and doing all the interior with the audio system, you see here. I fabricated myself the trays and kick panels to make it looking smooth.

The system uses Focal speakers in the handmade fibreglass kick panels, the rear shelf houses customized DLS 6,5“ speakers and an SPL Dynamics 1000W Subwoofer with amplifier in the trunk devider panel and trunk. The trunk gives also room for the US-Blaster 12“ Subwoofer, the amplifier is a Rockford 4-Channel, all controlled and feeded by a  Pioneer system with CD-player. "
