Fox interview with Steven McCarley, president of
the MCA on left behind the interviewer. The interview is online for a year
on Fox TVs website for those who want to see it.
If you wonder, where this Terlingua "08" numbered car went after the show, yes, it went
abroad. Patrick Bouthoorn bought it on site for his wife Astrid, as she fell
in love with it last year and Patrick had given a base V6 Mustang to be
converted by the Tasca Shelby Mod shop as #1 with the Terlingua Performance
Package. It has been shown meanwhile in the Netherlands on the 13th. June,
yet not licenced due to the luxury tax, that applies in NL, but Patrick will
have it on the road for Astrid within June 2009.

Shelby Terlingua Racing Team V6 modified with
the Performance package by Tasca #1.

Final custom work is done on Astrid Bouthoorns Terlingua racer on Sunday
before it went out for export to the Netherlands/Europe.

The Media
guys were well-prepared....
..until it came to the geographical
questions about Europe.
 In
a nation where the Discovery Channel is the best known source for foreign
nations information, the media guys can't know it all although they try to use
wikipedia more often these days:). Well, this is not a
serious writing anyway, so don't take any offense in what is said here. A good
dose of humour is requested.
It was quite funny - what happened - since my dutch colleagues made all that
effort to be that well represented in the 45th with 110 members staying at the
Marriott HQ hotel and then they had to answer that little question that nobody
expected, but first follow along these lines.
I found Martin Hajkens from the Team Mustang Center Nederland at the gates on
the 16th. early morning and followed them along to a small crowd gathering in
front of the Barber Motorsports park museum. Well, there was a set-up of a
Mustang Challenge race car and a mobile TV camera car which turned out to be
from Fox TV reporting on line on the 45th the very first minutes on the 16th.
of April to attract more local visitors to the show.
Racedriver Joe (yup, I forgot his name, sorry)
and Steven McCarley, president from the MCA were there and we shook hands and
they did their interviews in front of the camera. The questioning went around
the international character of the show, reason for the interviewer to pull my
dutch friends - waiting close to the driver - to the car and asking them
about Mustang enthusiasm in other countries, as obviously there were so many
of them around, even the first day.
Well they talked about their huge club -
actually they have about 1100+ members and are probably the
second biggest group in Europe right after the Swedish club with 2000 plus
members (all model years of Mustangs) and the interviewer was really
interested ....
but then closed the interview with the infamous question:
"Where the
hell are THE NETHERLANDS?
My mates looked at their feets and after a while - half smiling squeezed
out just 3 words "Next to
Germany" - what an embarrassment for some, but at the same
time putting a smile in my face and hopefully - as sort of a dutch-german
insider running joke - in my mates face. As you can see in
the below picture the question was good for a final laugh, since we were only
20 people from Germany at the 45th and then this question!
Never mind, Martin, we see us at the 45th. Event from the Team Mustang Center
Nederlands 45th. show mid of June in NL/Europe. Steven McCarley from the MCA
unfortunately had to cancel his flight early June, having been invited as a guest speaker.
Bad luck for the TMCN, but they can stand it for sure. It is one of the most
active clubs in Europe next to the french and swedish.
