The History of the 1966 Shelby Group 2 no. 16 This car has been a mystery for years with little publication. It has been found after 40 years and was in 2015 a topic of the SAAC forum. Reportedly it was sold to a Shelby employee and driven to Holman Moody in Charlotte/NC. Lee Holman remembers it sitting in their shop. He told me that story as well last year when I visited him during the 50th Anniversary. Wayne Bard from Florida bought it from their used car lot in July 1967. It has been repainted by its owner and garaged in 1977, pulled from storage in 2014, given a mechanical check, brakes restored and engine brought to life and obviously sold in early 2015. As of 2017 Steve Francis stumbled over it at the Simeone museum, meeting Chuck Cantwell, Greg Kolassa and Howard Pardee from the SAAC and many more. Update May 21, 2023 Sold at Mecum for 165.000 $ to Vernon Estes. As of now he will keep it with the Patina, no decision made on a restoration yet. Picture courtesy Mecum Auctions. |
