Lillegul 1-3 by Ponyparts.no | 3 movies finished, 3 different cars - next one will feature E-Mustang |
The norwegians did a phantastic series of road movies featuring 3 yellow Mustangs over the years in a sequel. The last one was filmed partially in Germany, where I had the opportunity to visit the team and watch exclusively some film work at a gas station near Cologne, near the container haven in Duesseldorf and on the Severin bridge back in Cologne. Soon after that they filmed at the Nuerburgring. Fortunately I got permission by the producers to publish some of my shots from the filmworks. Richard was very open to share film locations with me, so I could attend plus we had numerous chats over the used movie cars. By coincidence Dave Petersons brother Tom raced the last of the 3 yellow Mustangs prior to its shipment to Europe in the US and I got to know more about this former race car as well. Dave is a good friend, who contacted me decades ago about A/S racing Mustangs and he shared a lot of knowledge for our T/A and AS Mustang section. More details to follow soon. |
The Movie cars
|
The two Mustang movie cars in the Container village in Duesseldorf. Can you differentiate them? Not so easy, the "burned" tar shape on the rear fender is one clear sign, if you walk closer. The others are more subtle. |

Two almost identical 1967 Mustang Fastbacks are the
main hero movie cars. The original "Lillegul" Fastback was and is owned since a long time by Richard Anderson. It was a Mustang built in San Jose on the 12th June, 1967, original Turquoise blue, 289 engine, 4-speed trans and 3.00 rear end for the Seattle district. Ordered via Robinson and Lyon Ford in Renton/WA. The Marti report shows that a Black Stripe was odered with the car and white sidewall tires. Interior was black (2A). The engine is a special artwork from Madness Power (Karl Ness) and Richard of course. Since decades it is pimped every other year to perform better, so an actual description is not easy. It is a stroked engine during the movie works. More details to follow. |
Stunt car #1 Lillegul, while it was at the Ford Classic Centre at the Ford Cologne Factory in Cologne for a short visit arranged by us. Thilo Moerke from the FOMCC took care with Helga Mueller and guided them through the historic Ford show. |
Stunt car
#2 A rare sighting on the streets aside from the filmworks. Richard and his mates liked the Cafe del Sol in Cologne for dinners. Here you can clearly see Stunt car #2 with the 5004 licence plate. While at the film scenes of course it had the same licence plate than the stunt car #1. On the rear fender you can see the initial rather sprayed on burning rubber black spots. During the filming of course this movie car accumulated more real rubber and tar. Stickers on the bumper are the same like the licence plate, this had to be accurate for both cars in case of a change during filming. BTW the tires are kept on the floor by Caltracks mounted underneath. This avoids wheel hop during acceleration. | |

The third one was modified for Borning 3 only,
when according to the script a Hot Rod engine needed to go into the car and
the race at the Ring got projected. It had to race against serious Porsche race cars and therefore it needed some race history. Actually the Petersons in the US came to rescue with their period race proven car (1998-2004), though not many ingredients survived over the years from back then. That Mustang was obtained from from a race driver called Tom Peterson and its color changed from blue to yellow after a not so nice pitstop in Nevada. Long time contributor Dave Peterson told us "My brother and I raced this car from 1998-2003. It was a decorated SCCA Solo II car in Alabama, where we found it. During my brothers ownership it was a serious contender against the best vintage cars: I had a run I will never forget against a 427 midyear Vette at Texas world speedway. We were back and forth the whole race. The engine was an Aussie headed Track Boss. Here is a short video we did for the sale in Oct. 2017: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-Ka_3JnEc0 I see five CVAR tech stickers, one VARA and two ProAutosports, which was Larry Pond, the proprietor of Gemini, which was the go-to Shelby track prep business before Cobra Auto. At one of these CVAR events, my brother hit a first gen Shelby in practice and was benched, so I took over the driving. We had some trouble with the brakes. Tilton system constantly leaked and the O-rings were melting at the calipers for some reason. We knocked a hole in a piston after the timing gear bolt backed out and valves tagged pistons. I replaced the one bent valve and didn't remove the other head. Next time out, a valve came apart on that head and we had to completely re-do the engine. But it ran when we sold it. https://youtu.be/O-Ka_3JnEc0 My brother sold it from Phoenix about five years ago (Oct. 2017) and it disappeared. The next owner was from Arizona as well and it was still Grabber Blue, as my brother had it painted. What we heard was, that these guys wanted to make it initially street legal. Not sure what happened with all those parts taken off, maybe sold with the car from AZ to Europe by the next owner. After arrival in Europe The engine got swapped and many more items needed special parts for the Ring to survive on this legendary race circuit called "The Green Hell". The movie team asked as well for a wow moment in the script and Richard and his mates Karl and Preben managed to install a Chevy Hot Rod engine with Ford dressed up toppings into the Mustang. This was done in the movie on a trailer while driving to the ring, the scene is very spectacular. In reality of course the engine got swapped elsewhere in a garage. What appears in the movie as an easy swap, wasn't really, Here you can see the size of the engine that needed to go into the Mustang engine bay. While in Germany the car had 2-3 major repairs to be done, some over night, as the film schedule was tight. On right you can see Richard smiling again after the engine got out and soon back into the bay of the movie car. Time was a big constraint of the team and there was one guy only responsible to get them back to work with whatever it would take to source parts in Germany or far away. A club mate donated a 428CJ distributor for one of the movie cars, another was asked for rims, others for pulleys etc. During the film team's time in Germany, I got several mails or WhattsApps asking for some parts, a few I tried to call around, some were not available, but then sourced elsewhere fortunately by the team. A number of Mustang insiders got calls every second day, but not only for the Mustangs, but for the other Mopar movie cars and trucks. A true teamwork. The engine in the Hot Rod was/is a Chevy engine, that was tweaked to a Ford appearance to "ease" the link to the same engine being swapped into the Mustang stunt car in the movie. Valve covers and the black top, made by Madness Power/Norway were put on both engines to simulate the swap. |
Stunt car
3 The main movie actor in a prior life at the race track in 2004. Picture courtesy Doug Pawlak during the CVAR 13th Annual Marvelous May Races at the Texas/Arizona world speedway. Archive: Tom Peterson The car was not a direct sale, but went through the hands of wrenchers in Arizona on its way to Europe, a number of things were obviously changed, but Dave identified it despite all this as their race car when the movie came out and could be seen on the Internet around 2023. Richard is the stunt drivere here giving me a thumbs up on the film location on the Severin bridge in Cologne. Movie scene where the mechanics wrench on the top set-up on the trailer ...while driving on the Autobahn. Note the tow car. A spectator photo from the parking spot at the entrance of the Ring. Here cars are also inspected for circuit compatibility. Licence plate and rims got critics, but things could be solved on site with a closed track after some changes done to the car. The stunt car lost a rim while driving around the ring, nothing else damaged due to driving skills from Richard. Actually this was not a film scene, but during a test drive around the open Ring. Within a few hours, 4 new rims got sourced and dressed out again with new fitting tires. Consider that nightmare for the producing film team. |
The movie car stalled while waiting or backing up on the bridge several times. The Madness Power Service car coming to the rescue and then shifting it back into last camera position. |

The other gang | |
The other movie cars rowed up behind the gast station in Cologne, waiting for their call into the scene. |
|
Rich Anderson and
Preben with the other eyecatching movie car, a Hot Rod from a Mopar Shop
nearby. The group of car owners had a tough day at the gasstation in Cologne. The filming took so much time, they had to wait for their appearance behind the gas station for almost 10 hours for a small scene. I felt with them ...sitting in the shade of the station and having nothing to do. |

The future | |
Stunt car 4 -
what will it be for Borning 4? Borning #4 will feature an electric Mustang most probably, so expect the team around Richard, Karl and Preben to come up with a really slick idea, what an electric powered Mustang needs to have to be taken serious. I think we won't see a standard e-motor like in the other available vintage Mustangs that are available on the market already. We are very curious to see it in 2025 maybe. |
