History is
repeating itself also in Peru
R-Models of the past and a Shelby expert that lives the peruvian lifestyle of
motorsports still today
Many thought the Peruvian
Mustang and Shelby world has vanished a long time ago with the re-import of 3 of
the 5 R-models back to the US.
Not so - there is still a very vital and thrilling Mustang/Shelby community down
there that wants to relive the good old times like everywhere in the
world.
The Mustang is also a generation thing in Peru as we learned already through
recent contact to Andrea Vicich, Alejandro Fort (son of Emilio Fort), Patricia
Barrios and a few more. They all shared their memories as a child in the
heighdays of Peruvian motorsports with us and we hope to get more about that
exciting era that we can share with you one day.

Luis Lamas is special. He was there back then and he never stopped to dream and
live his life for the Peruvian Shelbys. Having earned his money the hard way, he
now can enjoy a very nice collection of Shelbys and special Mustangs - but his
ultimate dream was to own a period-correct R-Shelby and he has made his dream
come true.
"On
weekends I dedicate all my enthusiasm to my
Shelby
Mustang 350 R (replica). It is a part of my life, my family and
most important. It carries me away to my dreamland and memories. I try to
spread to new generations what I mean this car has been for the national
motorsports. Those times were unforgettable". Luis Lamas
Aside from that has a few other treasures in his collection:

For example a very rare 1992 SAAC Mustang #63 with a 295HP
5.0 from the then SAAC car company (founded by Rick Kopec and Ken Eber) .
Only 7 were made of the 1992 Mk1 version and some more MK2.
Then Luis owns a 1989 and 1992 5.0 and a Roush Mustang
IV as well.
But the best is - for historians and
researchers - he shared his collection of race pictures of the peruvian Shelbys
with us.
We will add them later, I am going to use them first in a club mag article. Stay
tuned for summer of 2011.
Here are a few other impressions of peruvian Shelbys:.

Other Shelbys have found their way into Peru these days like this outstanding
1967 Shelby from the Barrios family (#0268). There is another 67 Shelby(#0051) on the right and the Shelby notchback
#26
of the Barrios
family on the far right at a local Shelby meeting.
The Nicolini, Barrios and Vicich family seem to have still tight
connections.
We will touch the Zorro and Batman Mustang, Galjuf, Avaraldo and other drivers
history with help from the Fort family as well and some eye witnesses.
R-model competition Shelby - probably 5R530 - at the Inka-Rallye 1966.

Another R-Model at the Lima-Trujillo Race 1966.

Most propably 5R540 in the 1966 Lima-Trujillo-Race 1966.
More pictures following.
More history bits soon after reviewing further material sent by Luis.
