The Detectives
Mike Farrell 1968 Bullitt Replica "I have owned this J-code, 4speed, Highland Green 1968 Fastback Deluxe for 30 years. Built at the San Jose plant on June 18, 1968, I purchased the car for $1,500 from the original owner in the Summer of 1977, the year I graduated high school. Back then, the car had 93,000+ miles on the odometer. It now has over 234,000 miles! The "Bullitt" transformation began back in 1979 when the car received its first repaint. Before taking the car to the body shop, I removed all fender badges and lettering ordering the holes filled. Most recently, the tail light bezels, rocker panels, and gas cap bezel were powder coated a dark green metal flake resembling Highland Green. The original engine block had to be replaced in 1980 with another 302 Windsor bored 30 over. The internals include Ford rods, TRW pistons, rings, and bearings. The valve train and intake are Edlebrock Performer. The original Ford toploader transmission has been rebuilt twice. The interior is the Deluxe Interior Decor Group. Woodgrain dash, door panels, Selectaire Air Conditioning, with both upper and lower consoles.
In 1985, a friend of mine who worked at Warner Bros, was
able to get me several Bullitt production still photographs, which I
had later autographed by Cary Loftin and Max Balchowsky. I also
received an original production movie poster, which is slowly fading as
it ages. Finally, in 1995, Carroll Shelby autographed my glove
box.
I am often asked if I would ever sell the car. I
always reply "never", stating that upon my death, the car too is
to be destroyed in a viking funeral."
Best,
Mike Farrell

Mike Farrell, a retired LAPD
detective - is a close friend of Dave Kunz and they meet each other on a
regular base to exchange detailed information on the BULLITT Mustang. No
wonder that Mike is the second owner of a EFFPI black leather wrapped
wooden steering wheel that is as close to the original custom made one
as it could be. If you want one as well, contact Dave Mathews in
Guilford/CT and have 2800 Dollar ready to go. |
