Scott Ullrich from San Francisco
is ready to take RRRRRevenge
Indeed he'd like to
meet you 68 BULLITT owners at the Road Rallye
on 30th. of August or later to take pics like in the movie and maybe a
little bit more action.
But be careful he jsut finished his restoraton after several years, a fresh
paint, a few hubcaps only will limit the chase.
O.k., fun aside, make sure you welcome Scott and whenever a 68 BULLITT
Mustang replica is in town in SFO, contact this site to make an arrangement
with Scott.
Quite a nice guesture of
Scott, so let's call him Bill. He is one of us and probably a better driver
with the bigger engine, the right tires and the mean car that is.
With his car we will be able to start the Charger Replica section

for the filming in a DHG similar paint scheme.

Plus old Mike Magda Article
What does it tell us. The theme is still hot and there are enough enthusiasts
out there, who'd like to share the thrilling ride. We'd love to see somebody
giving an order to one of my favourite simulator team, that we typically
engage for my companies fairs. This rallye team is a professional finnish
rallye team and has caused many a hype amongst fair visitors as well as
incentive tours inside big car companies factories.
This would be a thrill of a ride for any
Mustang enthusiast. Since we do know Ford guys read this site, there might be
a chance.

was aired on June 1st. (We announced this further down a while ago.)
Here are pics of David Kunz car at the Petersen

Terry."
The show will be probably included on the
DVD, but not sure, since the sales start date is June 7th.

July 9th. 2005, SFO saw the 2005
inofficial BULLITT rallye
event!
The
tour was initially cancelled by organizer Clif Wilson, who did not keep me up
to date unfortunately, so sorry to anybody, who made the extra drive out there.
Anyhow a few enthusiasts seem to have gathered at Bullitts house and
Mark Myers (double of McQueen) was there and several people had their BULLITTs
staged with him.

Next time we'd like to receive event updates from organizers in case of

Video FAREWELL to BULLITT
We've followed David McDivitts efforts to create a sort of remake of the
BULLITT atmosphere. Unfortunately his efforts were not honored by sponsors or
producers.
Still he'd like to give a Farewell to BULLITT with a private video. It took
his wife and him an hour to do this nice video at http://www.davidmcdivitt.com/Videos.html
Check out the last on that page. It is worth it and we hope, David gets
another car challenge very soon. The character would certainly have been very
close indeed.
Update: June 15th.
David finally got caught in the act and becoming more famous with Brian de
Palma and Wolfgang Petersen recognizing his talent. Hopefully he can fulfill
his dream of a BULLITT remake once himself.
" I am
going to be on TNT's "WANTED"
as a kidnapper that airs July 31st. Also on the Hallmark Channel in "Jane
Doe" as an Agent.
This Friday I will be in the film " The
Black Dahlia" as a 1950's cop and in the Remake "The
Poseidon Adventure" as a bridge officer.

so Greg or the new owner - if you read us, let me know more details

An italian BULLITT Job - no Minis, but a
Ford Built Tough
Frenz from Italy would be certainly adopted by Henry Ford today, if he
knew about his recent racing at the Imola racetrack against Ferraris letting
them sniff the smoke of his tires and burnt premium fuel coming out of the
dual exhaus tips.
Although it's a 1967, it has an original DHG 68 paint job done.
"My baby has an upgraded 289 putting out 310HP....and a C6, that works
exceptionally well with the engine. Almost every part has been renewed
including interior, hoses, rubber, nuts, gas tank. The engine featuring forged
pistons .0030 oversize, is topped with Edelbrock manifold and 600cfm carb.
I was racing at Imola for an upcoming article in the Automobilismo e'epoca magazine,
probably in March or April 2005." Frenz

Tacoma/Washington. The race is open for pre-1960 cars only, but extra entrants
are sometimes allowed, so Lew is positive to have his ride of a life behind
the official group.

Interviews with the
actors!
Could we turn back the time and do the same back then in 1968 - just simply
asking THE ACTORS about BULLITT, we would do it at once, rest assured.
Well today, it's easier, but then again, it takes a bit of patience.
This site would not be THE PONYSITE, if it doesn't have the deeper insight
into things going on in the Mustangworld
David Stuart is the actor of the Farmer in the Ford commercial Cornfield and
was kind enough to answer some of our questions plus told us more backscene
anecdotes.
A. Read here about
his experience on the spot
Mark Myers, the lookalike of Steve McQueen is ready to join this insight view.
Did
you know in 1998 they made another Mustang 60 seconds commercial with a white
Cobra and Mark behind the wheel of a 69 DHG Cobra Jet or the PUMA commercial?

A BULLITT replica soon for sale
Mike has put quite some effort in his replica to get it right. Surprisingly he
wants to part with it, after the restoration is finished in June 2005. He is
taking offers now upwards of 15.900 Dollar. Rush - because first interested
buyers have already taken note of this opportunity.
"I recently restored this 68 Mustang fastback to a Bullitt
replica. This car is an original deluxe interior car
with knitted vinyl seats and correct 68 headrests. It
has power brakes and power steering. I recently had it painted 2001
Ford Bullitt Dark Highland green. It has lower console, tinted glass all
around, turn signal hood, fold down seat, cobra dress up kit, 289 engine and C4 transmission. Has torq thrust wheels and 225/60/15 tires.
I relocated the antenna to the rear like the Bullitt car.
It is currently for sale."

DEARBORN, Mich. -
The late Steve McQueen is making a return
appearance
in commercials for the 2005 Mustang. The ads
draw on the actor's appearance behind the wheel of a Mustang in the 1968
action movie "Bullitt."
Marketing experts say the ads are right on target because of
the mystique surrounding McQueen, who died of cancer in 1980. The ad is an homage to the 1989 movie "Field of
Dreams,"
in which Kevin Costner portrays a dreamer who conjures the spirits of Shoeless
Joe Jackson and other baseball players when he builds a playing field on his
farm.
In Ford's commercial, a farmer builds a winding racetrack,
which he circles in the 2005 Mustang, due in showrooms next month. Out of the
cornfield comes McQueen.
The farmer then tosses his keys to McQueen, whose likeness is
created by a body double and some digital editing wizardry. The spot ends with
McQueen driving off in the new Mustang.
Mustang enthusiasts have been buzzing for days on Internet chat
rooms about the high-concept commercial. Ford confirmed the accuracy of the
story line described on the Internet, The Detroit News said Thursday.
Marketing experts say the Ford ad is pushing the right buttons
because the McQueen legend and the Mustang evoke fond memories for movie-goers
and car buffs alike.
"It's a very positive association," said Wes Brown, a
partner in the California consulting company NexTrend.
The Mustang commercial is part of a comprehensive marketing
effort Ford is launching to generate some excitement about the blue oval
brand.
The automaker is counting on a strong start for a group of new
models to bolster sales and put an end to a long market share slump. The Ford
brand is on track to drop to 16.6 percent of the U.S. market in 2004, its
ninth consecutive year of decline. Through September, Ford's total car sales
were down 13.5 percent from last year.
The brand also has increased its fourth-quarter advertising
budget to $170 million, about 50 percent more than was spent during the final
three months of 2003.
Using computer magic to transcend the passage of time isn't new
to commercials. Ten years after his death in 1987, Fred Astaire's image was
featured in a TV ad that showed him dancing with a Dirt Devil vacuum cleaner.
"If it's executed properly and well, it can be a very
effective tool," Brown said.
The Mustang commercial was conceived by Detroit-based J. Walter
Thompson and shot by Believe Media, an international production company whose
clients have included Coca Cola Ltd., Nike and McDonald's.

Bullitt
David reports:
"My car is on display in September in a Petersen Museum exhibit space at the annual Los Angeles County Fair. They're doing a

Bullitt Mustang rental now easier for filmmakers

We've had quite a number of inquiries from filmmakers and producers about highland green Mustangs of the 67 or better 68 Fastback variety. Gary Heaney now comes to the rescue in Europe at least with his offer via www.starcarhire.co.uk.

.David's replica made it into the 40th Anniversary Newhardt book
|
No Mustang book would be a good one without excellent pics... and mentioning the 1968 Bullitt Mustang. Again lacking the original Bullitt Mustang photographer Newhardt choose David Kunz replica to appear in this 2004 anniversary book. In publishing those and other pics from Newhardt on their Media site, Ford now finally has also a quite outstanding picture series of all kinds of rare Mustangs in the 40th year of classic Ford Mustang promotion.

...Ever heard of this Solar BULLITT button?
|
George Mills from Colorado again brought us some unique memorabilia to our attention: "In the Spring
and Summer of 1968 I was a chauffeur in San Francisco and worked as a driver for Solar Productions, on the production of the movie Bullitt. This button had to be worn on the set from us. I still have mine".

...OSCAR AWARD GOES TO … FORD MUSTANG
Mustang has been the No. 1 car in film, performing in more than 500 starring roles – more than any other automobile.
Ford and Hollywood celebrate 40 years of Mustang with a special movie Mustang collection on display during Oscars weekend.
This spring, Ford and legions of fans from around the world will celebrate movie star Mustang’s 40th birthday. In its long tenure as America’s favorite muscle car, Mustang has performed in more than 500 starring roles on the silver screen – the first appearances being in "Goldfinger" and Le Gendarme de St. Tropez in Europe probably!
In honor of Mustang’s 40th anniversary and the 76th annual Academy Awards, Ford has put together a special collection of superstar Mustangs for display around Tinseltown during Oscars weekend and at Ford’s own Oscars party on Sunday, Feb. 29.
While the stars schmooze, sip “Ford blue” martinis and stroll the “Ford Blue” carpet to the La Dolce Vita restaurant in Beverly Hills – Ford’s Oscars Party takes place.
The collection features the following Mustangs:
- The all-new 2005 Mustang
- 1968 GT 390 from “Bullitt” - featuring David Kunz "official" BULLITT replica
- 2 Fast, 2 Furious - 2001 Lipstick Red Saleen S281 supercharged Mustang coupe
- Classic 1966: 2001’s “The Princess Diaries” Mia’s “baby” her classic 1966 Mustang convertible
- “Eleanor”: The modified 1967 Shelby Mustang GT500 dubbed Eleanor

Almost a genuine 1971 Mustang BULLITT sequel?
An italian moviemaker called Alberto de Martino must have been a true BULLITT fan already back then in the early 70ies thinking of an sequel with another DHG Mustang.
Indeed for Big Body enthusiasts there is a quite interesting 5 minutes chase scene in his movie Blazing Magnum (Una magnum speciale or Feuerstoss) with a lot of similarities to the BULLITT action of Steve McQueen. The Blazing Magnum was filmed in Panama and published in 1976 however. The real star aside from Stuart Whitman is a dark green (!) Sportsroof that also carries some signs of earlier damage from the beginning of the scene.
Very well made downhill jumps, crash scenes, wild pursuit action and some other nice stunts similar to the BULLITT movie make this thing quite enjoyable, although it does not have the dense atmosphere and spectacular thrilling burnout scenes like in the real BULLITT movie. Another difference is that the bad guy sits in the Mustang, not the cop this time. More pics and more background soon.

|
Spy shot of new BULLITT version?
No way, said Ford back then in 2001 and it is true - it will not happen, but don't forget a Tribute version that could be built from any aftermarket company. Then again, who would be willing to pay the fee that is involved with licencing? If you know the numbers Warner or the McQueen fond would be talking about, just forget it. Buy 2001 emblems and wheels and create your personal version. It's that easy.
|
|
New BULLITT/Sheryl Crow artwork
Since Sheryl Crow did the BULLITT music video, it has become a bit quiet about her. Although the stunt work was excellent, the music itself - not the lyrics - seemed not to have achieved the same "earcatcher" level than Mustang Sally back then. So here is an excellent eyecatcher for your living room or bedroom wall that might be better suitable to turn your head. if you are a true BULLITT enthusiast. Bill Pruitt is an outstanding movie and celebrity paint artist and has catched the specific (maybe controversal) sensitivity of Sheryls and Steve McQueens profile in his artwork. For ordering prints (prized 15$ or 50$), you may wish to visit his website. |

NZ Classic Car mag bites the BULLITT
New Zealand is not only in terms of landscape a paradise. New Zealanders seem to have a special dedication to muscle cars of all kinds and our beloved Ponies make it all too often into the headlines and on the covers of the famous and brilliant NZ Classic Car magazine.
John Noble is one of our NZ reporters aside from Dale Mathers and provided us with the October issue featuring a so-called '1968 Shelby BULLITT', in fact a G.T. 500KR in Higland Green. Although certainly not something that Steve McQueen would consider as a poor cop's daily driver, it has something of a "What, if..." story. This tune is how the multi-page article with excellent pictures and centerfold is actually written. This actual 1968 G.T.500KR was located on ebay after an auction had failed on the 25 years sitting fastback... and brought over to New Zealand by Henry, a native West Auckland resident. Congratulations.
Why do we mention this? Just in case you'd like to read another english perfectly done mag that covers Mustangs and Shelbys quite often. Go to www.classic-car.co.nz to get the mentioned October issue that
also covers one of the 26 true 67 Shelby hardtops from Dan Bowden downunder as well. |

BULLITT Remakes are IN
The bbc.co.uk/films webpage reports as of 7th. November 2003 about a rumour of a possible remake of BULLITT starring Brad Pitt.
"Bullitt Shoots Again?
Rumour has it that classic Steve McQueen thriller Bullitt is being inked for a remake. Hollywood whisperings are that Wolfgang Petersen, currently shooting sword 'n' sandals epic Troy, will helm the project with his Achilles, Brad Pitt, in the McQueen role. McQueen's son Chad McQueen is expected to produce the movie. Brad Pitt following in Steve McQueen's footsteps? High Noon reckons Pitt's gonna need bigger shoes."
Another one is 'BULLITT Downloaded' by Richard Driscoll from the UK featuring a 10 minutes chase scene in a 'parallel world' with a Mustang they have bought, because nobody was willing to loan it....It is supposed to be out in February 2004 acc. to latest information. Wether William Shatner, Steven Craine and Sylvester McCoy will appear or not, we just don't know and leave it up to you to judge this
information. No news on that in 2004/2005. |
